Sunday Outing 4th August 2013 – Murchison Gap and Strath Creek

For this Sunday outing we will be shooting another sunrise, this time at the Murchison Gap Lookout and then at around 10am we will meet at Strath Creek for brunch and a decision for the afternoons shoot for which there are several possibilities. We will meet at the lookout at 6.45 for sunrise which should be at 7.15am on Sunday 4th Aug 2013 and the angle will be pretty much straight across Strath Creek (see sun map below).

I intend to visit Strath Creek on the weekend prior to the outing to check it out and I will provide more information next week. There is a map below for directions but just head on up the Hume Highway until you get to the Broadford turn off and turn right. For those who are not so well travelled, the easiest way to the Hume is along the Monash to the city and after the tunnels, head towards the airport (Tullamarine) and then the Hume highway is shortly after the Sydney Road turnoff. Beware, there are tolls involved in going this way. Alternatively you will need to go up through Heidelberg towards Greensborough and take the Metropolitan Ring Road to the Hume Highway.

Changes to upcoming workshops

We have a couple of changes to our workshops in March and April.

The March workshop on Tuesday 19 March 2013 will now focus on astrophotography and using the landscape/seascape with long exposures at night. The presentation will be given by Alex Cherney and by all reports it wiil be a most excellent evening.

The workshop on Tuesday 16 April 2013 will be devoted to instruction on printing and mounting prints.

WCC Beginners Course – Term 4 – Oct 2012

Term 4 Beginners Course starting 8th of October is fully subscribed.
Apologies to all those who have been knocked back but we need to keep the class numbers small so that we can offer everybody the personal service which we believe sets our course apart from the others.

There is already a long list of reserves in case someone drops out but in all likelihood if you haven’t got a place now you are unlikely to get one this year.

We will be running the course again next year and like this year, there will be four terms to choose from. Please check this website for announcement of next year’s dates. I imagine that the dates will be settled around the end of November.

Again, sorry if you’ve missed out but much like a good sunrise picture you have to get in early.

Cheers,
Pete

Report: Terry Lane – Life and Times of a digital imaging reviewer, ‘someone has to do it’

Wednesday 13th June 2012 saw a special night at Waverley Camera Club, a presentation by the renowned radio broadcaster, newspaper columnist and well known contributor to the AGE’s Green Guide, Terry Lane. Terry’s 40 minute talk which is entitled ‘Life and Times of a digital imaging reviewer, someone has to do it’ went down very well to a packed Craft Room at City of Monash’s Community Hall in Mount Waverley. Terry’s knowledge of the cutting edge in cameras fascinated members and guests alike and Terry happily answered many questions afterwards. It was a huge pleasure to see that Terry had enough time to stay behind to converse with the members after his talk. Waverley Camera Club would like to thank Terry Lane for giving up his valuable personal time for the benefit of the club members.

Also on display was an exhibition of prints by Waverley Camera Club’s special member, John Friend who is in his ninties. John’s exhibition was filled with just stunning vibrant images that he had taken over his many years as a press photographer. John has worked as a press photographer extensively in Europe, and in Australia he spent years with the now folded Argus Newspaper (which most would not have heard of) and later on 22 years at the ABC Gordon street studios as a Senior Cameraman and later as a Lighting and Technical Director. Many of Johns images are registered and held with the State Library Latrobe Picture Collection and he has also exhibited at the Monash Gallery of Art.

Special thanks must go to the club President, Ian Hansen (pictured below) for organising the entire evening which was a great success.
