February 2019 Workshop – Printing with Starleaton and Epson

For our February workshop Starleaton has partnered with Epson to teach us everything we need to know about printing (well, some if it anyway!!)

This means a change of venue to Epson – 1155 Malvern Rd, Malvern, 7.00 pm start. Epson will provide catering.

At our last visit to Starleaton many members came home with excellent prints. In addition to learning about printers, papers and colour management there will be another opportunity to print your images with a range of papers available including fine art papers.

This is a great opportunity – do come along. Please let me know if you are coming so we can assist with numbers for catering. Thanks

A Taste of Activities for 2019

The committee has been busy planning activities for next year and we have been guided in this by the responses from the survey in terms of set subjects and workshops. A number of these are now confirmed and our first few competition nights will be as follows:

So that you can prepare, other possible set subjects are travel, animals, movement, minimalism, food and low key/hi key. Once judges are organised these will be confirmed. The “creative months” will be May/July/September/November, so there is plenty of time to get creative before they are due in!

Workshops currently being organised are printing, black and white photography, low key/high key lighting (Kayell), travel photography, camera function and maintenance, macro photography, astro-photography and more.

We are also well on the way to securing Mark Galer who will be doing a half day workshop on LightRoom where we are hoping to cover some of the more advanced features. The first weekend in March is the likely date for this event and there will be a small charge which will be subsidised somewhat by the club. An advanced photoshop workshop is also being planned so watch this space.

November 2018 Workshop – Explore the finer points of our cameras

As a result of the weather forecast next Tuesday night – 95% chance of rain and possible thunderstorms – we will not be doing a beach outing for our evening workshop!

Instead we will “stay in” and learn more about our cameras. We will meet at the Mt Waverley Community Centre at 7:30pm where there will be four areas set up for owners of our most common camera brands – Canon, Nikon, Sony and Olympus. Owners of any other brands are welcome to join in – perhaps there is a brand you would like to know more about.

Together we will explore the finer points of our cameras – bring your manuals just in case!

New Competition Structure for 2019

To remain relevant and responsive to our members in 2018 the committee undertook a survey of members on a number of issues. One of these was to determine whether the current monthly competition structure needed change. After consideration of all the information received, the committee decided to go with a 3 tier competition structure in 2019.

President’s Trophy 2018 – In the style of…

Each year the President of WCC choses a subject for our end of year President’s Trophy competition. This year there will be a little more time to prepare the images due to the earlier AGM, so I have set a challenge:

Choose your favourite painter, photographer, sculpture or artist.

Entries are due on Monday 12 November 2018. Please send your files sized as per a normal competition to comp@waverleycameraclub.org, named with your member number and image title (eg NNN-title.jpg).
