Workshop Night – Tuesday 15th March 2011

Hi All,
there’s is a Composition workshop coming up this tuesday night which will begin at 7:30pm.
The venue is Wadham House, 52 Wadham Pde, Mt Waverley and we will be downstairs.
Composition is the art of framing an image and is quite easy to learn, you don’t need any technical know how whatsoever
and as such is the quickest way to start improving your photography.
If you have any images which don’t look as good as you were hoping they would it may be that the composition could be improved.
If that’s the case then bring your images along tomorrow night on a usb memory stick and we will see what can be done.

This exercise is open to all but could be especially handy for those of us just returned from the weekend’s trip to Aireys Inlet.
Chances are that some of the locations you photographed were also snapped by someone else and that the two sets of images will be very different
from each other. It will be interesting to discuss why one way works better than another or just to see if the audience is evenly split about their favourite compositions.

The first part of the evening will be taken up with a chat on the psychological aspects of how/why/what we see so if you’re thinking “oh I’ve read/heard all about composition before”
then make sure you get there on time because I doubt you will have.

Cheers,
Pete

Blue Lotus Water Gardens on Sunday 6 March

Hi Folks,

The next outing on the calendar is this Sunday (being the first Sunday of the month) and for the third year running we are off to Blue Lotus Water Gardens. This is a fantastic place to take pictures, indeed much of the layout has been designed with photographers in mind.

Have a look at their website and you’ll see what I mean: http://bluelotusfarm.com.au/

If flowers are not your thing then consider this: Blue Lotus is also a wonderful place to do landscape and portraits.

The gates are open at 10:30am by which time we will all have congregated in the car park. The address is 2628 Warburton Hwy Yarra Junction.

Bring your partners/children and bring a picnic lunch (no BBQ’s) or buy lunch at the cafe. This is the perfect opportunity for new and prospective members to get to know everyone.

Cheers,
Pete

Workshop Evening – Tuesday 15th Feb 2011

Coming up this Tuesday at Wadham House:

A presentation by the good people at

Nulab/PicPress/Creative PhotoWorkshops.

They are Australia’s premiere professional photographic laboratory, they
supply print, workflow and business solutions to the professional
photographic industry throughout Oceania and the world.
They offer a wide range of products and professional services.
On the night they will provide an interactive slideshow presentation
with displays of the products they offer. They will have information that
they can hand out to members. This hand out will include examples of
their printing capabilities, booklets, and each member who attends on
the night will receive a $25 credit towards Nulab!

On top of this Nulab is in a partnership with Creative Photo Workshops
who are Australia’s leading photographic tutoring company. CPW will give
a presentation on a certain aspect of photography, whether that be
portraiture, flash photography or wedding photography. At the time of
writing I haven’t been informed of what the topic is. They have found
that this combination has been very beneficial for club members, with
each member taking away something from the nights presentation.

Recently the team at Nulab, Picpress and Creative Photo Workshops
have given presentations at-
         Geelong Camera Club
         Frankston Photographic Club
         Southern Suburbs Camera Club
         Mornington Peninsula Camera Club

With all of these clubs thoroughly enjoying the presentation, they
have asked to return later this year.

***UPDATE***
Here’s a little more info on the workshop night coming up this Tuesday.
Not only will Nathan Muller be presenting but you will also be regaled by Shelton Muller.
For those who haven’t heard of Shelton Muller yet try googling him and see how many hundreds of pages come up.
I am very sorry that I won’t be there to see it, I will be at Pakenham Camera Club that night, so I want you all to go and then let me know what you think.
We may be able to get them back in November if we are lucky.

Cheers,

Pete Davies

Queenscliff this Sunday 6 February

Hi All,

As you should be aware the second Sunday outing of the year is on this coming Sunday.

The location this time around is sunny seaside Queenscliff. Roughly ninety minutes from the CBD Queenscliff offers many photographic opportunities.

What I suggest is that you all meet at 10:30am at the carpark at the end of Hesse St:

Directions:

Next door is Fort Queenscliff which is probably a good place to start. Check http://www.fortqueenscliff.com.au/ for further things to see and do.
As always, partners are very welcome, as are prospective members.

Cheers,
Pete

BBQ this Tuesday

Hi Folks,

I do apologise for the lateness of this, but I must say that the new year has snuck up on me way too fast for my liking.

BBQ at Jells Park this Tuesday from 6PM.

The forecast isn’t great but for those brave enough to venture out into the elements we will meet at the electric BBQ in the Stringybark Picnic Area which is the same bbq hut as we did two years ago.

Enter Jells Park from the Waverley Road entrance and look out for us on the left, if you reach the Visitor Center/ Madelines you have gone too far.

First Sunday outing of 2011

Happy new year to you all, I hope the celebrating hasn’t had any adverse affects on you.

The first Sunday of the month is this coming Sunday and we are going to kick the year off with a sunrise shoot. Being only a couple of weeks after the summer solstice means that the sun will rise pretty early in the morning.

If you plan to go you will need to be at Monash Gallery of Art (cnr Jells and Ferntree Gully Roads) by about 5am.

Yes 5am.

Bring tripod, camera and mosquito repellent.

See you there,
Pete

End of Year Competition Night – Tuesday 7th December 2010

If you are not coming to the outing this Sunday make sure you come along on Tuesday night as the year is rapidly winding down.

This coming Tuesday we will have the best of the best on display and professional photographer Randal Armstrong as our guest for the evening. We will also have the much talked about and highly anticipated President’s Trophy, there’s still time to get your entries in so if you haven’t done so yet get cracking. The President’s trophy is a bit of fun where your goal is to make Pete smile.

Three EDI entries on the topic “Hitchcock movie titles” were due by midnight on 30 November.

***Important***

As always we ask that you bring your partners/loved ones and a small plate of food.

See you all on Tuesday

Pete

Friday Night Shoot 19th Nov – Brighton Beach

This is more of a sunset shoot than a night shoot but given the subject it’s probably better to have some light.

The subject is Bathing Boxes at Brighton Beach.

The forecast at this stage looks quite good so come along and have a crack at a very iconic subject. Meet at the northern end of the boxes around 7pm.

If you want to bring partners/porters/models/chauffeurs or whatever please feel free to do so.

See you there,
Pete

Image evaluation workshop

The workshop this Tuesday at Wadham House will be an image evaluation night.

It requires you to:

  1. be there
  2. bring some images

You can bring prints or EDI’s but we would prefer it if you emailed the EDI’s to comp@waverleycameraclub.org before lunchtime on Tuesday. Doing that will save a fair bit of hassle on the night.

If you have had images which were previously in a competition and you didn’t agree with what the judge said then this would be the ideal opportunity to get a second, third and fourth opinion. The main objective of the night will be to try and explain what judges are searching for when they look at our images.

Should be fun, you should learn something and hopefully improve your chances in a competition.

Visitors are most welcome.

see you there,

Cheers,
Pete
